Outbound for founders doing their own sales
Founder-led sales works because the founder knows the problem better than any seller will. It fails when outbound becomes a second job: hours of list building and research for a handful of emails. The fix is to do less of it, better: a narrow ideal customer, a short list of companies with a reason to talk now, and a few messages a week that only you could write.
Narrow the ideal customer first
A founder's first customers usually share more than an industry: a size, a stage, a team that owns the problem, a moment that made them look. Write that down as your ideal customer profile, including who is not a fit. A narrow profile makes every later step faster.
A weekly routine
- Monday: look at which companies in your profile had something happen last week: a round, a key hire, a launch, a new office.
- Pick five to ten. Not fifty. The ones where the event touches the problem you solve.
- Research each for ten minutes: what changed, who owns the problem, one thing worth saying.
- Write and send, personally, from your own mailbox.
- Friday: follow up on last week's, and note what got replies.
What only a founder can write
You can say why you built the product, what you saw at companies like theirs, and what you would do in their position. That is more interesting than any feature list. Keep it to a few sentences and ask for something small.
When to hand it over
When the routine produces meetings every week and you can describe who replies and why, it is a process someone else can run. Until then, it is still discovery, and it belongs with you.
How Revnox fits founder-led sales
- Revnox reads your site, works out who you sell to, and shows up to ten matching companies with the signals it finds for each.
- Revnox watches the companies you track for funding rounds, hiring, new leaders, product launches, acquisitions and expansion, and keeps the source of every signal it files.
- Each account is scored against your ideal customer profile, with signal combinations counting for more than any one signal alone.
- For the strongest accounts it writes a dossier: company overview, pain points and key people, each with its source, plus an outreach angle.
- The first message is drafted from that research, and each message waits for your approval by default.
- It is built for small B2B teams in software, professional services, healthcare, construction, manufacturing and agriculture.
Questions
How much time should a founder spend on outbound?
Enough for a short weekly routine: pick five to ten companies in your ideal customer profile where something happened, research each briefly, and send a personal message. Volume matters less than a real reason to write.
