1. What it is

RevnoxBot is the reader behind Revnox, a research service for business-to-business sales. It reads a few public pages of a company's website so that a salesperson can see what the company does and what has changed there lately: a new role on its careers page, a post on its news page. Every request names itself RevnoxBot/1.0 (+https://revnox.io/bot), the address of this page.

2. What it reads

• The home page, to see that the site is live and what the company says it does.
• The careers or jobs page, the news or press page, the blog feed, the sitemap, the team page and the site's icon, each only where the site's robots.txt allows it.
• Public pages only, and over https only: it never asks plain http, never follows a site from https to http, never signs in and never submits a form.

Most pages are read at most once a day and some once a week. However many Revnox customers follow the same company, its readers take turns, so one host is asked for at most one page every ten seconds. The one exception is the site's icon: a few small requests, after which the answer is remembered for a day.

3. Blocking it with robots.txt

RevnoxBot obeys the robots.txt group named RevnoxBot, then one named Revnox, then *. To keep it off every page that robots.txt governs:

The home page is still asked now and then to see that the site exists. To stop that as well, write to us as below.

4. Sites it does not read

By default it does not read the websites of banks, payment institutions, insurers, government bodies, defence organisations or healthcare providers. They are read only for a customer whose profile names that sector, and never for a domain that asked us to stop.

5. Asking us to stop

Write to nikola@revnox.io with the domains you want left alone. They go on a list that every part of Revnox checks before any request, the same day, and it covers every host under them. If RevnoxBot did something you did not expect, the same address is where to report it: please include the time, the address it came from and the page it asked for, and we will answer with what it did and why.
