Signal categories
A signal belongs to one of 38 categories, in eight families. Each category has one starting strength, one way of decaying, and an age at which it expires. Which of them your workspace sees depends on what is collected and what you record. The buying categories:
- Funding round: starts at 95, decays exponentially with a 30-day half-life, expires after 180 days
- Funding announced: starts at 80, decays exponentially with a 20-day half-life, expires after 90 days
- Revenue milestone: starts at 70, decays linearly, expires after 120 days
- IPO filing: starts at 90, decays exponentially with a 30-day half-life, expires after 180 days
- Hiring SDR/BDR: starts at 85, decays linearly, expires after 60 days
- Hiring engineering: starts at 70, decays linearly, expires after 75 days
- Hiring sales: starts at 75, decays linearly, expires after 75 days
- Hiring (other roles): starts at 50, decays linearly, expires after 90 days
- Hiring marketing: starts at 65, decays linearly, expires after 75 days
- Hiring leadership: starts at 75, decays linearly, expires after 60 days
- Team growth: starts at 65, decays linearly, expires after 90 days
- New executive: starts at 80, holds for 30 days, then drops to 30%, expires after 120 days
- Product launch: starts at 70, decays exponentially with a 20-day half-life, expires after 90 days
- Tech stack change: starts at 60, decays linearly, expires after 120 days
- GitHub activity: starts at 40, decays exponentially with a 14-day half-life, expires after 60 days
- Integration added: starts at 55, decays linearly, expires after 90 days
- LinkedIn post: starts at 40, decays exponentially with a 7-day half-life, expires after 30 days
- Blog published: starts at 35, decays exponentially with a 14-day half-life, expires after 60 days
- Podcast appearance: starts at 45, decays linearly, expires after 90 days
- Conference speaking: starts at 50, decays linearly, expires after 90 days
- Social engagement: starts at 35, decays exponentially with a 5-day half-life, expires after 21 days
- Partnership: starts at 65, decays exponentially with a 30-day half-life, expires after 120 days
- Acquisition: starts at 85, decays linearly, expires after 180 days
- Expansion: starts at 70, decays linearly, expires after 150 days
- Award / recognition: starts at 40, decays linearly, expires after 90 days
- Regulatory change: starts at 50, decays linearly, expires after 180 days
- Competitor switch: starts at 85, decays exponentially with a 20-day half-life, expires after 60 days
- Competitor complaint: starts at 90, decays exponentially with a 14-day half-life, expires after 45 days
- Contract expiry: starts at 80, holds for 14 days, then drops to 30%, expires after 30 days
- Website visit: starts at 60, decays exponentially with a 5-day half-life, expires after 21 days
- Content download: starts at 65, decays exponentially with a 7-day half-life, expires after 30 days
- Pricing page view: starts at 70, decays exponentially with a 3-day half-life, expires after 14 days
- Demo request: starts at 95, decays exponentially with a 3-day half-life, expires after 14 days
- Review site activity: starts at 75, decays exponentially with a 10-day half-life, expires after 45 days
Hiring (other roles) is a real posting whose function the classifier does not recognise. It is named rather than guessed at, so you can see how much of your book lands there; before 2026-09-22 such a posting was labelled engineering hiring, which made the gap invisible by making it somebody else's number.
Executive departures and layoffs are categories too, and they are not listed here because they are not buying signals: they are left out of the account's score, and recording one holds outreach to that company. No collector finds LinkedIn posts; one is recorded only when someone adds it, for example with Mark warm.
Strength ranges explained
Strength 70 and above: act within days. Strength 40 to 69: act within 2 weeks. Below 40: context only, don't lead with a stale signal.
